A few common questions

What is Dashier, exactly?

A backend for content-driven products. You describe your data sources once — Members, Events, Products — and Dashier gives you an admin dashboard, CRUD forms, imports and exports, a scoped REST API, and role-based access control for every one of them.

Do I have to write database migrations?

No. Records use a metadata architecture — fixed columns plus a JSONB value document — so a new data source is a configuration change, not a schema migration. You can create one by hand, import a CSV or JSON file, infer fields from sample data, or paste a JSON Schema.

Can I bring my existing data?

Yes. Upload a CSV or JSON file, map columns to fields, and Dashier validates every row — types, required fields, unique values, reference integrity — before anything is written. If a row fails, nothing is committed.

How does authentication work?

People sign in with Google, so there are no passwords to store or reset. Your own app never handles credentials either: it uses a project API key sent as an x-api-key header or a bearer token, scoped to read, write, or admin.

How are permissions enforced?

Three layers. Four system roles (Owner, Admin, Editor, Viewer) plus custom roles define who can do what. Every role grants permissions per resource and per verb — members.read, members.create, members.update, members.delete. And every request is scoped to one organization on the server, backed by Postgres row-level security.

Can parts of the API be public?

Yes, per endpoint. Each generated route can be Public, Authenticated, or restricted to specific roles, and you can attach a rate limit. Public read endpoints are perfect for a marketing site; writes stay behind your keys.

Where is my data stored?

Managed PostgreSQL with row-level security policies on every table. Image and file fields upload to private object storage scoped per organization and project, and are served back through short-lived signed URLs.

Is there an audit trail?

Every create, update, delete, role change, permission change, import, and key action is recorded with the actor, the entity, and the before/after values. Filter it by user, action, or date.

What can I connect Dashier to?

Anything that can make an HTTP request — a Next.js or React frontend, a mobile app, a server-side job, a webhook consumer, or a spreadsheet workflow. The generated API is plain JSON over HTTP.

Is there a free plan?

Yes. The Starter plan is free while Dashier is in early access, with no credit card required. Paid plans add higher limits, custom roles, file storage, and longer audit retention.
