Import CSV and JSON data
Upload a file, map columns, review validation, and commit an import with care.
A controlled import turns an existing spreadsheet or JSON dataset into records that use the same fields as a data source. Use a preview-and-review workflow rather than treating a successful upload as proof that every value is correct.
Prepare the data
Choose the target source first. Compare the source fields with the CSV headers or JSON keys. Remove columns you do not intend to store, standardize dates and enum values, and resolve duplicate identifiers before import. Keep a copy of the source file in the system where your organization manages backups; the Dashier import flow is not a backup plan.
Upload and map
Open the source import action and select the CSV or JSON file. Map file columns to source fields. Confirm that a date column maps to a date field, numbers to number/decimal fields, and booleans to boolean fields. Reference fields require a valid target record identifier; importing a human-readable label does not by itself create the referenced record.
Review validation
Inspect the preview and every reported issue before committing. Validation follows the configured field types and options: an invalid email, URL, date, enum choice, or reference can prevent a row from being accepted. Fix the original file or mapping when possible, then repeat the preview. Do not assume that partially valid input will be silently repaired.
Verify the result
After import, compare the number of accepted rows with your source count and inspect a few records in the generated table. Check values with leading zeros, dates, empty cells, and non-ASCII characters. If imported records are consumed by an application, test the API response and downstream display before treating the import as complete.
Dashier supports CSV and JSON import/export. Exact limits depend on the current application configuration; no throughput or maximum-row guarantee is published here. For file/image fields, read File uploads; for access control, see Permissions.
